1150年以上続く京都三大祭りの一つ「祇園祭」を執り行っている神社。全国に3000もの分社があります。主祭神は素戔嗚尊（スサノオノミコト）で、往古牛頭天王（ゴズテンノウ）とも称されます。また、薬師如来を本置仏ともし、疫病消除のご利益を得られる神社となっています。もともとは神仏習合の場所で祇園感神院という名前で親しまれていました。しかし、明治時代の神仏分離により今の名前に変更する形となりました。八坂神社には七不思議があり、一度も蜘蛛の巣が張られたことがなく、雨垂れのしない西楼門、龍の住んでいる龍穴など面白いところがいっぱいです。立地もすごくよいので観光のついでに立ち寄ってみてはいかがでしょうか。

This shrine hosts the Gion Festival, one of Kyoto’s three major festivals with a history spanning over 1,150 years. It has over 3,000 branch shrines nationwide. Its principal deity is Susanoo-no-Mikoto, also known in ancient times as Gozu Tennō. It also enshrines Yakushi Nyorai as its principal Buddha, making it a shrine known for its efficacy in warding off epidemics. Originally a site of Shinto-Buddhist syncretism, it was affectionately known as Gion Kanshin-in. However, during the Meiji period’s separation of Shinto and Buddhism, it was renamed to its current form. Yasaka Shrine boasts seven mysteries, including a spider that never spins a web, the West Tower Gate where rainwater never drips, and the Dragon’s Den where a dragon is said to dwell. Its location is also excellent, making it a perfect spot to visit while sightseeing.
