かつて千本通りは墓場へ行く道の一つでした。現在ゑんま堂が建つ場所はあの世への入り口、つまり閻魔様がいらっしゃる場として1017年に開山した1000年以上の歴史あるお寺です。ゑんま堂大念仏狂言（5月1日～4日）は京都三大狂言の一つとして有名なので、是非5月に行ってみてください。観光地というより地元に愛されているお寺です。
