紫式部の曾祖父である藤原兼輔（ふじわらのかねすけ）の邸宅があった場所で、紫式部はここで夫・藤原宣孝と結婚生活を送り、源氏物語を執筆したといわれています。人生の大半をこの邸宅で過ごしたそうです。本殿入り口には小倉百人一首にも収録されている紫式部と娘の大弐三位の歌碑があります。
In the location where Fujiwara no Kanesuke, the great-grandfather of Murasaki Shikibu, once resided, it is said that Murasaki Shikibu spent much of her life here, where she married Fujiwara no Nobutaka and wrote The Tale of Genji. The main entrance of the residence features a monument with poems from Murasaki Shikibu and her daughter Daini Sanmi included in the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu, reflecting the substantial part of her life spent in this mansion.
