日本に約6000ほどある臨済宗の寺院のうち3400を占める妙心寺派の大本山です。
広大な敷地の中にはいくつもの寺院があり、全てをまわると1日かかってしまいます。見応えのある寺院を傍目に妙心寺の提案する「1時間コース」「2時間コース」「半日コース」に身を預けた拝観をおすすめします。
中でも退蔵院の庭園は室町時代の絵師 狩野元信により作庭されたと言われており、建物から庭を覗くと襖絵のように見えることから、元信の庭は「生きた襖絵」と呼ばれている。
Myoshinji temple is a big temple complex that has about 50 sub-temples. Although there are only few temples open for visitors, you can walk around and enjoy the atmosphere. You can also experience Zazen.
