紫式部は片山御子神社（通称　片岡社）で「ほととぎす声まつほどは片岡のもりのしづくに立ちやぬれまし」という歌を詠みました。ほととぎすが鳴くまで、片岡社の裏の片岡の森から落ちてくる朝の雫に濡れながら、人を待っていましょうという内容です。ほととぎすは渡り鳥なので、神様のご神意をうけて大切な人に会えるようにという歌ですね。
Murasaki Shikibu composed a poem at the Katayama Mikosha (commonly known as Kataoka Shrine), which goes, “Hototogisu no koe matsu hodo wa Kataoka no mori no shizuku ni tachi ya nuremashi.” The poem expresses the idea of waiting for someone while being moistened by the morning dew from the forest behind Kataoka Shrine until the call of the cuckoo. Since the cuckoo is a migratory bird, the poem conveys the wish, inspired by divine will, to meet a beloved person.
