鴨川の河川敷では、京都の夏の風物詩「納涼床」が始まっている。鴨川の納涼祭の歴史は古く、桃山時代にまで遡る。鴨川の西岸、二条から五条にかけての河原には、料亭や旅館などが軒を連ねている。

May is the month when the first signs of summer can be felt. The ‘summer festival of Kyoto – Noryoyuka’ is already under way along the waterfront of the Kamo River. Noryoyuka on the Kamo River has a long history, dating back to the Momoyama period (1573-1600). Many restaurants, inns and other establishments on the west bank of the Kamo River, between Nijo and Gojo, have set up their own ‘yuka’ (floors) on the riverbank.
